About Kehilat Shalom

Kehilat Shalom is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY!

Kehilat Shalom is a vibrant Jewish community, Conservative synagogue and educational center (ages two & up) serving upper Montgomery County, Maryland. Our community is egalitarian in both religious and social aspects. Now in our fourth decade, the demographic composition of our 350 member families remains diverse: Our community includes singles and young married couples, an active nursery school contingent, approximately 300 children in our religious school, teens, parents and active retirees - each of which contributes to making Kehilat Shalom a fun social and learning environment, and a welcoming spiritual home.

Early Childhood and Religious Education
We offer preschool classes for two, three and four-year olds. We also have kindergarten enrichment programs and "mommy & me" programs for younger children. Religious school is offered for grades K through 12. A Hebrew language component is also available at selected grade levels. Congregation-wide educational programs, such as Torah University and Passover University, are also offered.

Adult Education
Numerous programs are offered, including Perek Yomi, a program to study the entire Tanach (Bible and the Prophets) over a three-year period. This is a program sponsored by United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and its member synagogues. We also offer beginning and advanced Hebrew, a learners' minyan (daily prayer), and monthly seudat shlisheet, a Shabbat evening study session and light meal followed by Mincha, Maariv and Havdalah (afternoon, evening and end-of-Sabbath prayers respectively). We also sponsor a scholar-in-residence weekend with a special speaker.

Social Groups
Kehilat Shalom sponsors several adult social groups, including the Sisterhood, Mens' Club and Active Retirees. We also have youth groups for all ages: Machar (4th and 5th grade), Kadima (6th through 8th grades) and USY (9th through 12th grades), as well as Cub Scouts. There are also Havurot for families, young couples and empty nesters. These groups provide social activities for their members and opportunities to participate in the religious fabric of the community.
