September 2007/Elul-Tishrei 5767-5768
Welcome to a new year at Kehilat
Shalom!
You may wonder why it is important to belong to
Sisterhood. The purpose of Sisterhood is to
form friendships with other Jewish women, to
enrich each other’s lives, to help Jewish and
non-Jewish communities, and to make our
synagogue a place of welcome. Sisterhood at
Kehilat Shalom is about nurturing women,
personal growth and achievement, spiritual
enlightenment, and performing mitzvot.
Kehilat Shalom Sisterhood is affiliated with the
world-wide organization,
The Women’s League for Conservative Judaism.
This organization supports the Jewish Theological Seminary, the
Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, and the State of Israel. WLCJ also supports its Sisterhoods with a variety of resources: publications, leadership
training, conferences, and courses on Jewish topics.
Of course, there is always time for fun!
We have lots of exciting events planned, and
with your help, each activity will be a great
success.
Some programs include: preparing the
Yom Kippur Break Fast, Bingo Night, a beautiful
Hanukkah Boutique, Sisterhood Shabbat, a festive
“Night at the Kasbah: Queen Esther’s Banquet”,
as well as a Shaloch Manot Fundraiser and Purim
Carnival Lunch. We are also organizing a trip to
Strathmore to see Itzhak Perlman perform in May
and other cultural excursions. We have a
delightful Women’s Seder, a Maj Jongg
tournament, Book Club, Women’s League Torah Fund
Events, and Community Mitzvah projects.
Please join us for a new outlook on
synagogue life!
